Measuring up for a fabric thumb guard for kids, to help them break the thumb sucking habit, is really simple.
Each Thumbsie® is handmade, so it’s important to measure carefully to ensure the best fit. Please use the diagram as a guide—if you’re unsure about sizing, feel free to contact us. When your thumb guard(s) arrive, try them on before washing. If the fit isn’t right—too tight, too loose, or simply uncomfortable—please don’t wear it and get in touch with us instead.
Please measure the length from the tip of the thumb to the bend in the wrist, as shown in the diagram
Our thumb guards are available in five different sizes. When ordering your fabric pattern please select one of the following:
Size | Inches | Centimetres |
---|---|---|
Extra Small | 2.5 or less | 6.3 or less |
Small | 2.6 - 3.3 | 6.4 - 8.44 |

Large | 3.75 - 4.1 | 9.5 - 10.5 |
Extra Large | 4.2 - 4.7 | 10.6 - 12 |

If you find that you need a bigger size then we do offer a bespoke service, making them suitable for teenagers too. All of our thumb guards are secured by Velcro around the wrist, are adjustable, and will, therefore fit all size wrists. If when your thumb guard(s) arrives it is not comfortable, too big or too tight please do not wear it.
The Thumbsie® will fit either the left or right hand. Your child is going to be wearing the fabric thumb guard during the day as well as night time, so we highly recommend buying three for each thumb that they suck, so you always have enough to maintain good hygiene. Our Thumb Sucking Book Bundles are a great discounted solution.
