Face Masks

In April 2020 we have had so many customers ask us if we could make children’s face masks that we felt we had to do something to help. We’ve had families tell us that their children are anxious about leaving the house without wearing a face mask or that their child wants a face mask to match their Thumbsie®.  So, we turned our attention to face masks to do ‘our bit’ making them for our customers

Then with the recent announcement from the Government that it is mandatory that all secondary schools pupils need to wear face coverings in corridors, moving from class to class, and now in classrooms we launched a range of plain masks.

However, we are no longer selling face masks on the website, but we do have a few left, please email [email protected] if you require assistance. If you are wishing to help your child stop thumb or finger sucking then our fabric guards could help.

Our Face Masks

Our research has led us to believe that a double layer of poly cotton or cotton is the best approach and having a disposable filter that can absorb some the droplets that others sneeze or cough into the air.  We have therefore added an inner pocket so that you can insert your own filter or disposable layer, something like a tissue or piece of kitchen roll and then removed to maintain hygiene.

Thumbsie® fabric washable face masks are made from poly cotton or cotton and are available in three sizes. They will suit children aged 3 to 16 years old.  The face masks are secured with elastic and can be altered using a plastic toggle on each of the head side making it comfortable to wear.

Fun Fabrics Face Masks

Our experience of making children’s thumb and finger guards has helped us to understand that child are more likely to be encouraged and happy to wear a face mask if they like the fabric. The feedback we have had in the past few weeks has been incredible.

We have bought 2 Thumbsies in the past and when given the chance to purchase the face masks we ordered immediately. The masks are wonderful quality and my three daughters have individual face masks that they are not afraid to wear. Excellent service and communication from Jo when ordering. We would highly recommend. Sam Brown on Facebook

Wearing face masks is a family choice, we hope that if you decide to wear them in your family that our fun fabrics make it an easier choice for your child.

The children’s face masks are fantastic, thank you so much for making wearing a mask exciting and fun for my two girls. I have one girly girl and one who loves greys and blues. Both are over the moon and found there was plenty to choose from. Great service and delivered quickly. Thanks Thumbsie 🙂 Natalie on Google reviews.

Important Message

Please make sure that children know how to remove their face masks and wear them with care. They should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, and mouth when removing their face mask or covering and wash hands thoroughly, immediately after removing. We recommend purchasing several face masks, so that they are only worn for a short period of time and then washed immediately. As they are cotton we suggest washing them at 60 degrees in the washing machine.

Our face masks are not PPE and do not meet government for any medical grade face masks.

According to the government website as from 24th July, in England you must wear a face mask in shops, shopping centres, banks and enclosed spaces. You are also strongly encouraged to wear a face covering in other enclosed public spaces where social distancing may be difficult and where you come into contact with people you do not normally meet.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) state in their paper Advice on the use of masks in the context of COVID-19 6 April 2020  – ‘However, the use of a mask alone is insufficient to provide an adequate level of protection, and other measures should also be adopted”

Wearing a mask is no guarantee of protection and the government guidelines of social distancing and the washing of hands should still be adhered to. Wearing a mask in public settings and where other social distancing measure are difficult can help protect others.

Face mask and other cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under the age of 3, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

For hygiene reasons we can not accept exchanges or refunds.
