What a start to 2025! All of us at Thumbsie are thrilled that January was our most successful month ever. An amazing achievement for a business that’s about to celebrate our 12th anniversary.
Clearly lots of children have started off the New Year with big resolutions. And what could be better than a New Year’s resolution to finally kick the thumb sucking habit.
Although some people may look at a child thumb sucking and think it looks cute, there can be serious consequences. If a child sucks their thumb for the long-term – beyond the age of four or five – then damage can occur. This can include misaligned teeth, jaw problems, a tendency to get mouth or finger infections, as well as issues with self-esteem.
The most serious side-effects of prolonged thumb sucking are connected to a child’s oral health. As a child’s adult teeth are growing in, if a child is still thumb sucking long-term damage can be done. And the longer thumb sucking continues, the harder it can be to quit. Parents often get in touch with us and tell us they have tried everything, but nothing seems to work.
That’s where Thumbsie comes in. We offer a range of fun fabrics for children to wear on their thumbs or fingers. These Thumbsies® fit like a glove and are designed as a constant reminder to a child not to suck their thumb. Children can choose from a wide number of designs – animals, sport, superheroes – and there are five different sizes.
Best of all, they work! Our most successful month ever proves it.
Charlie’s mum told us:
“Charlie was sucking his thumb when we went for our 20 week scan, whilst we thought it was so cute when he was younger as he was growing we could see the impact it was having on his mouth and teeth.
“We had explored various methods, encouragement, books, bribes but nothing beat the comfort of his thumb.”
But after they tried Thumbsie, Charlie and his family were amazed at the results.
“I couldn’t believe it when he hadn’t sucked for 4 days. We were astonished. Now we are at week seven. We can see a difference in the shape of his mouth and teeth, which had been a huge concern. We are so proud of Charlie. Thank you Thumbsie for giving Charlie the motivation to stop sucking.”
Meanwhile Neev’s mum said:
“During the day she would suck her thumb whenever tiredness or boredom struck, and always in the car. We had persistently tried bitter nail polishes but these would work for 10 minutes and eventually she would just suck her thumb regardless.
“At 3.5 years, I randomly googled thumb sucking prevention and Thumbsie appeared. After looking for reviews, which were very encouraging, I showed my daughter who showed willingness to stop. She was also very excited to be able to choose her own designs.
“When the Thumbsies arrived, she was excited to wear them. We were worried she would pull them off, but she was so proud of them she would actually show them off. The Thumbsies worked immediately. Now three weeks in, she has lost the habit or urge to suck and are very grateful for having come across Thumbsies!”
So, yes, it really has been a fantastic start to 2025! We love hearing stories like Charlie and Neev’s. Do tell us about your child’s success story and claim their free Thumbsie certificate
